How to get verified on Instagram (blue check) in 2026

The two ways to get a blue check on Instagram: a Meta Verified subscription and notable-account verification. Requirements, how to apply, why requests are rejected and scams to avoid.

The blue check shows an account really belongs to the person or brand it represents. It protects against impersonation, builds trust and signals credibility to partners. There are two routes.

Route 1: Meta Verified

Meta Verified is a paid subscription for creators and businesses that verify their identity. Typical requirements:

  • a minimum age and activity history on the account,
  • a real name and profile photo,
  • verification with a government ID,
  • two-factor authentication turned on.

Benefits include the blue check, extra impersonation protection and access to support. Price and availability vary by country, so check the current terms in the app.

Route 2: Notable-account verification

Public figures and brands can request free verification. Instagram looks at four criteria:

  • Authentic: the account represents a real person or registered business.
  • Unique: it is the only account for that person or business (language accounts aside).
  • Complete: public profile with a bio, a profile photo and at least one post.
  • Notable: featured in multiple independent news sources. Paid or promotional content does not count.

Apply from the verification request in Instagram’s settings with an ID or company document and links to coverage.

The most common reason for rejection

Missing independent coverage. Your own site, your posts and paid articles do not count. That is why we often plan verification together with a PR programme.

Scam warning

Messages like “fill in this form to get verified” or “your account will be closed for copyright violation” are phishing. Meta never asks for your password or login codes.

How we help

We check whether the account meets the criteria, complete the profile, build a PR plan for independent coverage where needed, and file the request with supporting documents. Meta makes the decision; we make the request as strong as possible.

Frequently asked questions

Can you buy a blue check?

Accounts that verify their identity through a Meta Verified subscription can get a blue check. Notable-account verification is free but requires public notability.

Are 'guaranteed verification' services legitimate?

No. Only Meta can verify accounts. Messages promising guaranteed verification are usually phishing attempts to take over your account.

Why are notable verification requests rejected?

Most fail the notability test: the person or brand needs coverage in several independent news sources. Paid or promotional content does not count.
