Typosquatting
Typosquatting is registering domains that closely resemble a brand's domain, through typos, other extensions or extra words, for phishing or fraud.
Examples
Swapped letters, ".co" instead of ".com", "support" or "login" added to the brand, lookalike characters from other alphabets.
What to do
Monitor lookalikes, register critical ones in advance, report fake sites to hosts and registrars, and use domain dispute procedures where trademarks are infringed.
Frequently asked questions
How fast can a fake domain be taken down?
Phishing sites often within days of reports; transferring the domain through a formal dispute takes weeks.
