How to remove posts from Blogger, WordPress.com, Medium and Tumblr

Smear posts often appear on free blog platforms, and each platform has its own route for unlawful content and copyright.

Where is the blog hosted?

An address ending in blogspot.com, wordpress.com, medium.com or tumblr.com tells you the platform. For a blog on its own domain, look up the domain's registration and hosting details.

By platform

  • Blogger: owned by Google, so use Google's legal removal form and Blogger's content report.
  • WordPress.com: Automattic's abuse and copyright forms.
  • Medium: report from the post menu and Medium's legal support channel.
  • Tumblr: post report and copyright form.
  • Self-hosted: write to the site owner, then the hosting provider's abuse address.

A strong request

  1. Save the URL and a screenshot.
  2. Show sentence by sentence why it is unlawful: false fact, personal data, defamation.
  3. Attach any court order.
  4. After removal, use Google's Refresh outdated content tool for the cached copy.

Frequently asked questions

The author is anonymous. Can we still act?

Yes. Platforms only reveal identities with a court order, but removing the content rarely requires knowing who wrote it.
