How to remove content from forums
Forum posts stay on Google for years; work through moderators, the site owner, the hosting provider and, if needed, a court, in that order.
The order matters
- Moderators: most threads have a report button; posts with personal data or plain abuse often come down within hours.
- Site administrators: via the contact page, linking each post and explaining why it is unlawful.
- Data protection request: if your name, phone or photo is shared, an erasure request to the operator as data controller.
- Hosting provider: the abuse address if the owner does not respond.
- Court: if all of the above fail.
Thread or post?
If the thread title carries your name and the allegation, ask for the title to be changed or the thread to be noindexed; that works better than deleting posts one by one.
Frequently asked questions
If the forum closes, will its pages leave Google?
Pages of closed sites usually drop within weeks; if not, use the Refresh outdated content tool and check archive copies.
