How to remove content and fake accounts from Instagram
The route depends on the content: in-app reports for rule breaches, an ID-verified form for impersonation, and Meta's intellectual property forms for copyright.
Which route
- Harassment, bullying, hate: "Report" from the post's menu. The right category matters more than the number of reports.
- Impersonation: the impersonation form in the Help Center, which asks for ID. You can use it without an Instagram account. See removing a fake account.
- Your photo shared without consent: a privacy violation report.
- A photo or video you made: Meta's copyright form.
- Non-consensual intimate images: in-app report plus StopNCII.org, which shares only a hash of the image so it can be blocked across Meta's platforms without leaving your device.
Step by step
- Copy the post and profile links and take screenshots.
- Report under the right category; for impersonation, upload a clear ID photo.
- If refused, use the appeal option; some decisions can go to the Oversight Board.
- Report copies on Facebook and Threads separately.
