How to remove or correct information on Wikipedia
No one can delete a Wikipedia article alone; false or unsourced information is corrected or removed through the community rules, starting on the talk page.
Know the rule first
Claims about living people must rest on reliable sources. Unsourced or poorly sourced negative material can be removed immediately under policy. Editing your own or your company's article directly is a conflict of interest and must be disclosed.
Step by step
- Identify the problem sentence and its source.
- On the article's talk page, disclose who you are and propose the correction with reliable sources.
- For serious problems about living people, post on the relevant noticeboard.
- If the article fails notability, a deletion discussion can be opened; the community decides.
- For private information such as addresses, contact the oversight team, which also removes it from the page history.
What not to do
Paid editors must disclose payment. Editing through undisclosed accounts gets accounts blocked and can add a permanent warning to the article. If you want an article created, read our guide to Wikipedia's article rules.
