GDPR Article 15: right of access
Article 15 GDPR lets you find out what data an organisation holds about you, why, and who it shares them with, and get a copy.
What you can ask for
Confirmation and a copy; purposes; categories; recipients; retention period; rights to rectification, erasure and objection; the right to complain; the source; automated decision-making and profiling.
Time and cost
Usually one month, extendable by two for complex requests; the first copy is free.
In content removal
People-search sites and aggregators collect data from elsewhere; an access request reveals the source so you can ask it to erase too. Template: subject access request.
General information, not legal advice. In real cases we work alongside lawyers who specialise in digital rights.
Frequently asked questions
Can they ask for ID?
Reasonable verification yes; excessive demands designed to obstruct, no.
