GDPR Article 21: right to object
Article 21 GDPR lets you object, on grounds relating to your situation, to processing based on legitimate interests; in removal requests it is used together with erasure.
What it says
You can object at any time to processing based on legitimate interests or a public task. The controller must stop unless it shows compelling legitimate grounds overriding your interests. Objection to direct marketing is absolute.
In content removal
News sites, people-search sites and forums usually rely on legitimate interests or expression. Objection raises the question of why continued publication is disproportionate in your case and opens the door to erasure under Article 17.
