Turkish Penal Code Article 136: unlawfully disclosing personal data

Article 136 punishes anyone who unlawfully gives, disseminates or obtains personal data; it is a strong basis against addresses, phone numbers and ID details being spread online.

What it says

Unlawfully giving personal data to another, disseminating it or obtaining it is punished with two to four years' imprisonment.

When it applies

Doxxing with home addresses, phone or ID numbers; leaked customer or patient lists; private details shared in forums and Telegram channels.

No complaint required

Unlike the privacy offence, this personal data offence is not complaint-based; prosecutors act on their own motion, though a complaint starts things fastest.
