Turkish Press Law Article 14: right of reply and correction

A person harmed by a periodical publication that attacks their honour or is untrue can require the publication of a reply and correction; the deadlines are short.

What it says

Where a periodical publishes content that violates a person's honour and dignity or is untrue, the responsible editor must publish the person's reply without changes or additions: within three days of receipt for daily publications, and in the next issue for others.

Deadlines

  • The reply must be sent within two months of publication.
  • If not published, the person can apply to the criminal judgeship of peace within fifteen days of the publication deadline.

News websites

A 2022 amendment brought internet news sites within the Press Law. Confirm the deadlines for online publications with a lawyer.
